Admission Papers

Into the Institution
Formal admission
Alice arrives carrying official-looking documents and is processed under an involuntary-admission procedure. She believes the arrangements are a cover for her investigation, while the staff see a patient whose records describe possible poisoning and paranoia.
A change of status
Her clothes and belongings are inventoried, she undergoes an invasive search, and she is assigned a restricted place to sleep. The institution’s routines make the supposed disguise physically real before she can contact the director she expects to meet.
The Door Stays Closed

Detention Hardens
Institutional authority
Alice’s quarrel with Samuel Alvar ends with staff restraining her and transferring her toward intensive treatment. Her claim that she entered voluntarily cannot overcome the documents that classify her as an involuntary patient.
Loss of ordinary freedoms
She loses access to her Orange Pass Card and is later sent to the dementia ward. The worsening restrictions turn her earlier phrase about being legally abducted into a lived experience, regardless of how it began.
Release with an Unfinished Life

The Decision to Leave
A vote under uncertainty
After María Luisa presents the fuller history, the doctors debate whether Alice’s admission story reflects illness or deliberate performance. They require unanimity before withdrawing the certificate that could keep her confined.
A changed destination
The vote allows Alice to leave, but freedom does not restore her former life or settle every emotional question. She turns back toward the hospital, now imagining a future of service among the people and staff she has come to love.
